Scenes from Paris

Sorry ah haven’t updated recently nowadays I prefer to spend my free time sitting down and letting Fighter flip around inside me. Hahahaha.

But I thought I’d better get to the Paris blog post or else I’d forget eventually that I’ve even been to Paris wtf.  (it’s the pregnancy brain)

My first time ever to Paris!  I’ve never been to anywhere in Europe besides England so Fatty wanted to show me around.

We debated stopping at a third city — maybe an Italian one — but we didn’t have enough time (when I visit a city I make sure there’s enough time to explore all its little nooks and crannies and not just the obvious tourist spots) and we (rightly) thought I might be too tired from going to three cities in 2-3 weeks.

As it is London and Paris nearly killed me wtf.

Hopped on to the Eurostar and two hours later, bonjour Paree!

Untitled

And bonjour Arc de Triomphe!

Our hotel was right on Champs Elysee so this was the first thing we saw.

Champs Elysee!

Paris is undeniably beautiful, with its olden architecture and flowering boulevards.  But it is also undeniably smelly wtf.  Friends already warned me about that and it’s true especially if you walk down the smaller alleys; you sure get a whiff of stale pee. -_-

I fell in love with the buildings but I was also disappointed to see that there were obvious signs of disrepair – chipped walls, cracks, graffiti, etc.  Maybe it’s because the architecture was so stunning that the defects were even more obvious.  Or because we came from London where everything is generally spick and span I dunno. :X

I was a bit disillusioned the first couple of days but I think by the end I got used to it!

I’d be a shitty tourist if I didn’t take the obligatory Eiffel Tower shot.

Untitled

Pretty boulevard on the way to the Eiffel Tower.

Untitled

When in Paris, do as the Parisiennes do? Hahaha I didn’t buy any of these la.  Although the yellow color one super cute!

The Louvre!  From now on, to always be associated with Da Vinci Code FTL.

Sorry ah I everyday wear same jacket and scarf wtf.

Untitled

Venus de Milo.

Untitled

Mona Lisa *stifles yawn

I skilfully managed to crop out all the other gawking tourists who were all lifting up ipads to photograph the Mona Lisa.

But really not very impressive at all leh so small and dim looking wtf.  Maybe I just don’t know anything about art. :X

Just around the river bendddd

Wind blow until eyes cannot open fml.

Untitled

Notre Dame!  Hunchback nowhere in sight so misleading.

Untitled

Pont des Arts!  Where it’s apparently fashionable now to inscribe a love message on a padlock, lock it there and throw the key into the river.

We accidentally stumbled on it one!  Then I recently watched a movie where they did this too but for the life of my pregnancy brain I can’t remember what the movie is now wtf.

Gorgeous at night.

Another shot of Paris by night.

Untitled

Musée de l’Opéra!  Met a reader living in Paris, Paul-lynn who took us around for a bit and helped us snap this picture!

Untitled

Got live performance outside the Musee!  This guy was quite good some more.  Everyone was just sitting on the steps outside enjoying the sun and this guy’s music.

Untitled

I also enjoy la but grumpy because Fatty kept talking on his phone/whatsapping for work but at the same time he wouldn’t stop walking wtf so we walked on and on in the same area without really doing anything.  And at this point I was getting tired from walking too much cos of the additional weight I’m carrying so I got damn angry wtf.

This is Fatty’s way of trying to appease me – take photo of my angry face wtf.

Untitled

I heard it’s not the best macarons but it’s just a touristy thing to go to Laduree right!  The window display is oh mama heartstoppingly gorgeous wtf.

Untitled

Suddenly I want Fighter to be a girl so I can decorate his room in all these yummy shades of baby pink. T3TUntitled

Untitled

Hands down my favorite place in Paris.

It’s an independent historical bookstore that specializes in English literature.  And it’s pretty much filled with tourists and the books are overpriced but I loved it all the same.

Untitled

Snuck a picture.

It’s tiny and cramped so I’m sure the selection wouldn’t be as wide as any other major bookstore but the variety and genres still blew me away!  Maybe I’m too used to Malaysian bookstores and our Sophie Kinsella and John Grisham only *snotty

While we were there we heard a piano banging out Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now and then the Forrest Gump theme song which is Fatty’s favorite song wtf.  We followed the music upstairs and there was a guy playing an old piano nestled among the books.  Not very sure what it was for but added very nicely to the ambience!

Untitled

More expensive but it’s souvenirs!  I got a HP Lovecraft horror stories compilation… and a book on the Arab Spring. HAHAHA.  Very inspired to find out more about Arab Spring after the election wtf.

Untitled

More rubbishy trinkets I got as souvenirs…from the Publicis drugstore on Champs!  Drugstore also sell so nice things.  Especially love the mint rubber bracelet. 😀

Untitled

At Au Petit Sud Ouest, as recommended by Pau-Lynn.  The best meal we had in Paris!  The restaurant is entirely duck dishes and the foie gras there is heavenly.  Not to mention very cheap compared to what we pay here!

Fatty loved it so much we went two days in a row wtf.

The first day I nommed away at the foie gras.  Second day Fatty said “eh wait are you supposed to eat foie gras?”

Me: “uhhh I don’t know.” *fork of foie gras in hand*

Fatty: “wait wait let me google.”

Me: *looks at fork and figures it could be my last bite of foie gras so I faster eat it before he can stop me WTF

Fatty got his revenge though.  When we came home and went for our monthly scan, he told on me to the doctor WTF.

Then the doctor scolded me cos apparently foie gras is too much Vitamin A which could be harmful to Fighter. *dejected

Actually this was my best meal. HAHAHA.  I’m sorry besides the foie gras place I hated every restaurant/cafe we ate at in Paris!  Food was mostly not good and expensive and gave me heartburn.  One pasta dish I had was so salty I had to drink a bottle of water after.

You can never go wrong with Mcds.

  • Paris syndrome is something that affects tourists to Paris (normally Japanese), a lot of asian cultures build up huge expectations of Paris as beautiful and elegant and romantic, and then when people visit and it doesn’t live up to expectations, they get Paris syndrome, which basically just makes you feel like crap and disappointed! It’s an actual psychological condition haha
