Guangzhou I don’t even.

This is probably the first time ever I’m blogging pictures of…. food.

Do you realize! I very rarely ever post pictures of food.  I like food and all but it’s not really of big interest to me.  You eat it then it all comes out looking the same what wtf.

Cheesie said she doesn’t even feel like blogging these pictures cos they’re so ugly make her blog ugly lolol.

But this week, Cheesie and I took an impromptu trip to Guangzhou cos both of us have never been there.

And we hated it.

So much that we booked a flight to come back two days earlier than scheduled WTF.

I’ve heard a lot about China but nothing prepared me for this T______T

First of all, the weather was as hot as Malaysia but twice as humid.  The minute we stepped out of our hotel, we started sweating.  Never mind.

Fatty warned me that it would be very polluted and I wouldn’t be able to see blue sky wtf.  I didn’t notice these things but I noticed that Cheesie sneezed non-stop and her nose ran so much she cannot catch it wtf.  And I kept feeling like got dust in my throat.  Never mind.

Then when we were sitting on the bus, this old man sitting near us cleared his throat and spat on the floor. Of the bus T________T

And when we were in a mall (indoor) we saw a woman lift her baby over a trashcan so the baby could poop in it T___________T Bobo was like don’t look don’t look but it’s like watching a horror movie.  Or a car accident wtf.  You just cannot take your eyes off it even though you know what’s coming.

Oh I also nearly threw up when I had no choice but to go into a public bathroom T____T I tahan until nearly get UTI already so I was forced to go.  To my horror instead of a bin with a cover for disposal of tampons/sanitary pads, there was just a wastebasket in the toilet stall.  Uncovered.  With used pads stained red in it T___________T  This is when I nearly puked.  Don’t know whether to put my head near the toilet bowl, or my ass.  FTS.

When we were walking around, instead of looking around at the scenery (wait, what scenery) I spent the entire time looking down at the ground and avoiding patches of spit.

Chinese rudeness is legendary and I got to see it with my own eyes.  On the bus to the hotel from the airport, the conductor shoved my ticket and my change into my elbow for me to take it T_____T  Then Bobo’s sister Gin who came to pick us up, told us we had to watch our baggage every time the bus stopped to make sure nobody steals our bags WTF.

Then on the second day, we stood by the side of the road for at least twenty minutes, trying to flag down a cab to go back to the hotel.  All while cab drivers whizzed by at the rate of 1 cab/second.  Sorry, they didn’t whiz by.  They stopped to ask where we wanted to go, and when they heard our answer, all of them just drove off WTF.

I swear we flagged down like fifty cabs at least.

In the end, we were so desperate we got into an unmarked taxi T_______T  Which is basically a normal car belonging to an enterprising civilian who just wants to make extra money by acting like a taxi and driving people around.  I was so prepared to clobber him on the head from behind if he tried anything funny wtf.

By the time we got back to the hotel, my white leather loafers had grey lines of dust collected in the grooves of the leather.

And I got a shock when I looked in the mirror cos why I became so dark did I get tanned while waiting for taxi!!!!!  Then after I washed my face I became fair again WTF it was just all the dust that landed on my face

Literally .

In the cab me and Cheesie looked at each other and she was like “do you wanna go home early?” and I immediately opened my Air Asia mobile app to book our asses out of there wtf.

The two more days we had left in Guangzhou loomed over us like the valley of death ok we felt sick even thinking that we had two more days to go!!!

So we paid extra for an earlier flight.  And when we got onto the plane, I never felt so happy to see Malaysians and hear Malaysian accents T_____T  I nearly cried when we touched down in KL true story.

So this is the reason why for the first time ever, on an overseas trip, all I have to show are mostly food photos.

Cos that was actually the best thing about Guangzhou – the food.

Untitled

Peanut sauce noodles with roast pork!

Untitled

Goose intestines.  It’s all crunchy and the sauce on it was delicious!

Untitled

Wasabi prawns.  At first I was like meh cos I don’t really like shrimp unless they’re in salad but these were fantastic!  I think they were cooked in wasabi so the taste was just wonderful.

Untitled

Bobo’s sister Gin checking my pulse.

Gin studied traditional Chinese medicine in Guangzhou cool leh!  For 8 years some more.  Since my PCOS cannot be healed by western medicine even after ten fucking years of taking the pill, I’m exploring alternative medicine yo.

She’s my age so she said a lot of older folks don’t trust her due to her youth but I think she’s amazing already!  She took my pulse and stared at my ear (she majored in ear gazing lolol) and pronounced that I’m very “leng” (cold; Chinese medicine believes that sicknesses are caused by your body being imbalanced, too ‘cold’ or too ‘heaty’) which is what other Chinese doctors have said about me also!

So because my body is too cool, it affects my period and my body finds it hard to regulate my cycle… something like that wtf.

She also looked at my ear and said “you get gastric a lot right” omg so accurate wan!!!! And she also correctly asked me if I have any pain in my shoulders or arm which I got all the time!!! I thought it was because of my long hours working at the computer but she said it’s actually cos my body is imbalanced.  Which is the same thing another Chinese doctor I visited in Penang said last time, but I didn’t believe him wtf I still thought it was computer strain.  So now I think it’s true la.

I cannot take cooling foods like green tea (which I drink everyday wtf) and need to drink like red date tea which is more heaty to balance out the coolness.

I’m so cool. Hahahahahah.

Anyway she’s giving me a prescription for traditional Chinese medicine so see how it goes!  If this works to fix my problem, I swear Imma stop going to western doctors.

Untitled

She told Cheesie to press on the sides of her nose to relieve her blocked nose and it worked!!!

Untitled

The angle doesn’t show but the durian was actually twice the size of my head.

Untitled

#addiction outfits

Untitled

Our breakfast wtf.  Hotel was very no frills and this was the hotel breakfast.  Three baos and a peach and an egg.  A bowl of refillable porridge with yummy salted vegetable also came with it and only RMB7 leh!  Plus me and Cheesie split the breakfast so basically it cost RM1.75 each wtf.  Some more we kept the egg and peach to eat later as a snack super worth it hahahaha.

Untitled

Old school Pepsi.

Untitled

Ja jang mien.  Ok sorry dunno how to spell it. This was RM9 (with the Pepsi included) and the portion was huge!  Can feed two people.  Very yummy also and noodle texture also very nice wtf.

After we booked our flight back for the next day, I wanted to end the trip on a nice(r) note so we went for foot massage.

It was probably the best part of the trip T_____T

Untitled

Got free water!  And lemon tea!  And watermelon slices wtf.

Untitled

Foot massage in China is quite different from say Bangkok or KL.  I chose the “get rid of tiredness” package and they brought out this wooden tub and dumped some smelly medicinal powder in the water for me to soak my feet in.

Only RMB68 (RM34) for 70 minutes of massage!  They threw in shoulder, back and arm massage too wtf.

edit: have to say that the masseuses were very friendly and had mad massage skills wtf

Untitled

All of us looking exhausted.  Shitty until none of us bothered putting on makeup.  Or dressing up.  Cos it was so dirty, I wore the same denim shirt everyday to protect my whole body from the dirt. -_-

Then the next day, home!

But not before China screwed us one more time.

Untitled

This very average fried rice at the airport cost RMB78.  Or RM39.

And no other food around to eat -_________________-

Untitled

Fed up faces hahahah.

So that was Guangzhou for us.  At least it gave me blog fodder.

Thank you to Gin though for being so helpful and for bringing us around and generally taking very good care of us!!!!  And thank you Cheesie and Bobo without whom I’d never have gotten around at all cos they translated everything for me <333333

  • Some of that food did look pretty good. A very different look from American, but then again all we eat are Steak and Lobster here.

  • I know China environment is that bad, but isn’t the shopping place quite good? Especially GuangZhou where lots of fashion product there?

So sorry to hear about the trip that bad.. 🙁 Hope you can go to a better place next time…

  • the old school pepsi looks suspicious!! haven’t you heard of the dirty pepsi factory in china?? Oh noo~~ that’s why my japanese friend doesn’t want to be called chinese because of these!! not going to CHina ever. lol

  • they translated everything for you? you mean you do not know how to speak/understand mandarin?

  • Oh my goodness that sounds terrible 🙁 At least you’re all home safe & sound k!!

Last time I went to Shanghai there was this shop selling snacks. I went close to take a look at the snacks & an old grandmother elbowed me hard WTF. There were so much of space & she just must push me to take a look as well. Many other stupid incidents also lah ugh. I wonder why!! 🙁

  • Woah I didn’t realize Guangzhou is this bad…

  • Thanks Audrey…. You r so welcome …..is nice to seeing u …I’m very lucky & happy I left that country edi !! Hahahaha !

  • “Chinese rudeness is legendary.” For someone who spent time in the US and is educated, making such a statement is extremely ignorant and racist. You may not have enjoyed your trip to one city, but you should know better than to make such rude generalizations.

  • OMG! Lifting kid to shit in the bin….That is so so scary!(>_<)

  • richard: yea the food was pretty amazing!

lisa: yea the shopping was very cheap and there were some nice stuff!

trish: no i haven’t! lemme google it

    voyage: nope

raine: yea seriously i feel like doing an anthropological study on this wtf

reiko: i don’t know maybe it was just our experience or the places we happened to go :/

gin: hahahaha see you back in malaysia ok!! our turn to qing you in kl!!!

annie: what does spending time in the US have to do with anything? how am i racist when i myself am chinese? the statement was unflattering but it wasn’t based just on my experiences alone but on hundreds of reports from people i know who have spent time in china or come into contact with chinese, and from reading online. maybe i shouldn’t have said it was “legendary” but it’s true that china is perceived to be rude. and all those incidences i’ve mentioned – the voiding in bins and the spitting – are all commonly heard from first person perspectives. not too far off to say it’s legendary lo.

mindy: ya i’ve heard of it and i’ve actually seen it for myself now!

  • wah! random qn: did u bring toilet paper to china? cos i heard their public toilets dont have toilet paper..

i tink i will only go to beijing to see their great wall of china before i die but that’s it lol 😡

  • I’ve been a reader for so long and this is my first time commenting. It IS true that chinese rudeness is legendary. LOL. Btw, I’m a chinese myself.

  • lol! some how all your trip report is quite funny for me 🙂 I think you are polite and sweet really! Can only imagine what I say after such adventures 🙂
Some people also told me that the most shocking thing in China was loud clear-the-throat spitting sounds and even girls do this 🙂
maybe we need such experiences sometimes to freshen the head and appreciate what we do have at home 🙂

  • I’m sure you have gone to plenty of doctors so I apologize if this is information you already know. I am a medical student in the US and I have been working in with REI (reporductive endocrinology and infertility) surgeons all summer at the ob/gyn clinic. PCOS is usually in women who are overweight. Signs are facial hair (chin, upper lip, side burns), excessive body hair (chest, abdomen, upper legs), and the key one is irregular menstrual cycle. The only big concern of PCOS is problems with pregnancy which we treat with drugs that stimulate ovulation (letrozole, clomiphene) but if pregnancy is not a concern, all you need to take are birth control pills to help regulate your menstruation. This does not get rid of PCOS but will help you bleed monthly, avoiding building up a thick endometrium and theoretically decrease chances of cancer. I have also heard that drinking soymilk, which naturally has a compound like estrogen, can help promote natural menstruation but studies also show that too much soy products can lead to cancer (you can google this yourself on CDC sites). Sorry for long post but I also have pcos and wanted to share, if the chinese medicine works you should let us know ^^

Also, why did you guys go to guang zhou? Both Shanghai and Beijing have very nice shopping places as well as more tourist friendly areas with nice hotels. Also, people in Beijing are much nicer (shanghai stuck up IMO). Give China a try again some day!

  • Oh God, I actually wanted to visit China one day but I’ve been too many times to Japan and am SO used to their politeness, I think I would be disgusted too much to see things you saw…

  • I’m Chinese American and I feel like Chinese in China are worlds apart from me. They are the most selfish culture I’ve come across, as well as the dirtiest. An 80 year old woman tried to pick-pocket my friend as she was helping her climb stairs! But they do have good food and rice wine there. And dirty but cute kids.

  • A reply to your email; you’re welcome aud!! Pleasure helping you with the VPN.

Couldn’t stop laughing over your tweets and now blog about china, and read all loud to my husband cos that’s EVERYTHING about how I felt. There’s not one thing I like about living there for the past 8 months. maybe cheap shopping la haha

Just got back for good in Brunei yesterday, and never ever wanna go back to china or maybe just shen zhen for shopping LOL.

U missed out one thing about china, unshaven female private part hair O_O i see them in the changing room in gym wtf

Anyhow hope wedding preparations are almost done, don’t freak out. Everything will go the way you want it to be, trust me! 😀

  • Oh and , yes Beijing and shanghai are def better. Shanghai has gorgeous view, Beijing has less spittin, but hard to get taxi.. Thy always just drive off and ignore wtf. Both places I don’t have to look at the ground when I walk to avoid their spits. 🙂 hope that helps.

  • Yeah… China is… very, uh, unique. Went to the Beijing airport and someone was spitting and clearing his throat onto the floor. =.=;;

Oh yeah, I think you spelled the noodle the Korean way (idk for sure) but in Chinese it’s Zhajiang. 😀

  • wahhh.. now i feel grateful coz my ancestors decided to leave china.

eh.. aud, my body also very cool one, I have regular period though, but I cannot drink ice, if I drink ice, my period will stop in 1 day! damn scary… T_T
I am drinking red date tea + ginger quite often now, hopefully can balance the hormone! I can talk forever on this hormone thing, coz I been taking the chinese medicine for around 2 years, but stop taking now coz too expensive. -.-”

and thanks, I will remove china from my travel list forever.. lol

  • That ja jang myun looked good! Really different from the ones served in the korean restaurants (even though it’s originated from China.) Man, your trip sounded like a nightmare! Sorry to hear things didn’t turn out as planned… 🙁

  • Coming from a Chinese person, yes, my country is full of rude people. The government encourages people to be selfish and self-centered. I mean, there are people scared to help others because last time an old woman successfully sued a man for helping her up when she fell down! This is what happens when the government doesn’t take care of it’s people – everyone is out for themselves.

However, there are just as many good and sweet and extremely generous people as there are rude and selfish.

I went to Beijing last year and people were so kind! They don’t judge you for who you are and they don’t care how you dress, etc. It was pretty freeing! A lot of my girlfriends didn’t even shave cause no one cared haha. Plus the food is, as you said, absolutely delicious. Most of it is healthy too! You could eat so much and still lose weight.

Korea and Japan it is not but I personally still love China and all its quirks. Try going to Beijing or Shanghai and give China another chance! 🙂

  • NEVER going to china now!! One of my school mates was an international student from China and she mentioned the heavy pollution but I never heard of people holding babies over bins to take dumps or such gross bathroom conditions O_O. You must have a good gag reflex! I would have projectile vomited if I walked into that stall haha

  • I’m Malaysian and Chinese and have been working in Shanghai for the past 4 years. I was also educated in the US. I should be a called a racist too then. Wtf.

How could someone call another racist just for stating the mere truth? In fact, it’s not a rude generalization, it’s an honest generalization! I have to agree with Christine though, there are the occasional hidden gems – generous and kind people.

  • so true abt the toilet part..disgusted by the bin especially.luckily i went there during winter..so not much spiting.or im just oblivious to them wtf.reminded me bout the seller there who is so forceful. went to a shop to buy souvenir and the seller was like forcing me to buy it.said that if xwant to buy, dont touch the thing.was threaten by him and eventually bought it T_T

  • good for you. i got two fucking curly strands of hair in my niu rou mian.

  • Woah can see cheesie’s leg so dusty and in black O.O (or is that the light reflect thing?) in the pic during massage.

  • China is so polluted and I seriously can’t stand the way people just spit anywhere anytime. I always look down and avoid all the spits while walking too. The people there are seriously rude!! They always bang into you while walking and not even a single apology. 0.0!!!

  • you’re the first person i know who didn’t love it in china. :/ aud, i love you dear… but this post is just too racist. you have travelled to various places… and you have been educated in other countries. your shouldn’t that be ignorant and narrow minded. try not to make generalizations… specially if you haven’t been to all of china. godbless! :”>

  • Who knew it was possible to be racist against your own race. This is too funny. I wouldn’t sweat it, Audrey. I’ve been accused of the same thing here in the states. It’s so dumb. If you don’t like something or have problems such as you had, they MUST be some underlying reason, right? WRONG. You just had a bad time. That’s all there is to it. Some people will twist and turn your words till they think they see what they want. I guess it all goes back to that old internet saying “Haters gonna hate.” Let them. Who cares. You know in your heart you’re not racist and that’s all that matters. I hate Spanish people! Oh no! I must be racist against my own kind! Heh, some people.

  • why does everyone say you’re being racist? these must be the people who don’t live in china. i’m sorry, i live in china and can agree that many people are extremely rude. not sure about myself, i try to go out of my way and be nice – but if everyone rude, how can we be nice?

just so you know – when you label people as racist, you’re denying that there are problems in china. it is quite legendary and i’m sorry that people like meryl and annie refuse to see it. the chinese people do not help each other. every man for himself – it has always been so.

  • Aud! Don’t fret about those people calling you racist! You are merely stating the fact that they are rude and there is nothing racist about it. Sensitive people often get facts and racism mixed up, so don’t worry.

I’d never been to Guangzhou but I’d heard the same things as you stated here.

I do agree with others that Beijing/Shanghai are much better destinations, although I’d only been to Beijing. Beijing people are nicer and quite helpful in general. I’d never encountered anyone rude in Beijing at all.

Although, I wish the cars would stop honking all the time on the road. =_=

But about the pollution, it has to be about the same. I felt suffocated and claustrophobic under the low and dark skyline of Beijing the entire time I was there.

  • It sure sounds like an adventure Aud. Heh.

I’ve been to China, same thing. I’m okay with it though coz I like experiencing different cultures.

I don’t think this is racist at all. You’re just recounting *your* experiences. Nothing wrong with that.

It’s entertaining reading, stopped my car by the side of the road to read and reply. 🙂

  • It seemed like u have a horrible experience there.

Not able to comment much about Guangzhou as I have not visited there, but based on your ‘feedback’ on your experience there, I will think twice of visiting there.

Personally I had been to shanghai and a few cities, I realized that the toilet issue that you mentioned here, applies there too! The bloody sanitary pads and shit filled toilet paper in the exposed waste paper basket are super grossed! It’s probably their culture. And they do not provide toile paper in public places too! Screams*!

  • I’ve been to Guangzhou twice and I find the historical quarters Liwan district, the new Lizhiwan canal and Shamian quite nice and interesting. Dimsum is cheap and shopping for clothes and bags can be quite good too. I don’t really like the city areas though.

  • The only thing that i like about guangzhou is their cheap shopping ! As for their culture, i think it’s something that they really cannot change about it. Like you, I have encounter so many rude people and bad experience, including those in HK (not just mainland, china).

It’s so frustrating bcoz sometimes i kena yell/scold by some people for nothing. One time this shop owner go shout in cantonese “lei zhou mei yeh” (what are you doing) to me with the shoo shoo hand gesture asking me to backoff because i was standing 2 meter away from the counter. Wasn’t even near to the counter and i was just standing there and said “excuse me sir” (i needed some help, wanted to change my money into coins)..OMG, they treated me like i going to rob their magazine shop…. T-T..

And i have to bear with it because i am staying in one of the country permanently T-T

Anyway, it remind me to love Malaysia and proud to be a Malaysian more bcoz we have mostly nice people around ! 😀

  • O.M.G….

I despise my Guangzhou trip as well. I thought i’m the weird one..coz other people seems to love it.

I totally understands your feelings audrey …n ya their foods are indeed amazing. ^_^

  • Don’t sweat it with the mean comments. When you put pen to paper of your experiences on a public platform, there will be people who will misconstrue things that you have said. Luckily most people get what you were trying to get across and had a good chuckle. I did. Hang tough, don’t get down because some people missed the point *hugs*

  • Wtf can I plagiarize your whole blogpost because it’s exactly what I experienced in Beijing recently. T___T no more China for me. NEVER!!!

  • sorry to hear your bad vacation but nice to see the addictions again! haha

  • isn’t it funny how whenever people say “no offense”, it’s almost certain their comment will be offending? well, no offense but mainland china chinese people’s rudeness IS legendary. `nuff said.

  • Aww! Should’ve went to those overnight spas in Shenzhen Ex. the gold coast spa (黄金海岸水疗) http://www.hjhaclub.com/! I’m from Hong Kong and go quite often! Impeccable service and very hygienic, usually RMB 120 for overnight stay, 3 hours of massage, unlimited drinks and fruit and additional fees for facial, manicure etc. Plus they have free shuttle to the Lowu – Hong Kong/China border!

  • Hey Audrey! I’ve been following your blog for the past few months and I really enjoy all your blog posts!!

Honestly speaking, when I knew about your pregnancy condition, I felt really sad too because I know how much being able to have your own child means for every woman. I used to work for a TCM clinic in Singapore and this female doctor has helped many women with such difficulties to get pregnant too (and eventually giving birth to healthy babies). These women came from Singapore, as well as from nearby countries such as m’sia too and some even from as far as USA (their relatives take the med for them. The doctor talked to the patient thru the phone to understand more abt her condition).

I don’t mean to advertise for her or whatsoever but after seeing her skills for myself, I feel that she is a trustworthy and skillful doctor whom you can perhaps give it a try, since the clinic is located in Singapore so it’s much more convenient and oh well, cleaner (after reading your GZ experience)! Her medicine is in powder form too so it’s very convenient (just add water and drink like milo, only more bitter hahaha).

If you are interested, I can leave down the contact details and address for you. Nonetheless, I still wish you all the best and I hope your TCM friend can help you too. Take care!!!! <3333!

  • I travel to GZ every 2 weeks for work (im a singaporean btw). Imagine my pain! Got used to the dirt and habits of the people there although im still very turned off by its toilets. If you accept that they don’t function the same way as we do then GZ is still tolerable. I get what you mean about the smell though. They have no fresh morning air at all, even at 6am =(

  • Hmm.. coming from someone who have actually visited beijing quite a few times.. i have to disagree with some of the generalizations made.. i mean china is huge.. with very prominent income gaps within the country itself.. so the differences in standards that you can expect from different parts of china.. or even different parts of a city would be quite significant.. so if you have high expectations.. you should be visiting bigger cities and probably spend more time at their financial or shopping districts.. there will be better views/infra/toilets etc.. and you definitely won’t see women lifting their babies over trashcans. =-=

And about the ‘Chinese rudeness is legendary’ remark.. i guess i’m one of the strange minorities who can actually offer a different opinion.. as i’ve said.. the income gap in china is huge.. so it is common that you are going to see some less educated ppl who may act in a way that many of you would deem as unpresentable or rude etc.. but please bear in mind that some of them don’t even have the opportunity to attend proper schools, do we really have to be so judgmental and generalize their behaviors to the entire china population? From my personal experience, i can safely say that there are tons of well educated, friendly and warm ppl out there in china.. i’m not sure why not many seem to have encountered them like me and my friends did in beijing.. but many of them are very helpful and friendly, especially the elderly and the cab drivers! They can really talk to you about everything non-stop.. haha.. okay.. they maybe a bit loud sometimes.. but i have yet to encounter any offensive remarks or gestures from them.. so.. i don’t know.. maybe guangzhou is really different.. i’ve never been there before.. so i’m not going judge yet.. just like how i believe that the rest of you here shouldn’t be judging the entire china simply based on your experience in one city or based on just one post.. its not fair to the country and its people at all:)

  • I’m so sorry to hear about your horrible time in Guangchou. Being full-blooded Chinese myself, I would definitely agree with you about how the people are rude there. I’ve been to Guangchou and everything you described doesn’t surprise me. I absolutely hated the toilet situation. I ended up buying and carrying around my own toilet paper and literally avoided using the restrooms at all costs. I have absolutely no inclination to go back…EVER!!! Stick with the bigger cities and not the townships like Guangchou.

  • Hm. I’ve been to GZ twice, once 10 years ago and the second visit 2 years ago. Besides the food, Shaiman Island and the GZ Metro (which closed at 2200) was OK.

The “legendary” Mainland rudeness is true. Besides the pollution issue, their behavior is as your witnessed. I’ve seen Mainlanders do this inside HK Disneyland too. AFAIK, a lot of GZ is full of migrants who bring their habits with them. During my visits to Beijing and Shanghai, I saw less of babies dumping into trash bins and spitting. Also the locals I met had the same complaints you did about the people who migrate from the countryside. Think its more of a rich/poor issue. But not racist!

  • totally agree with MELODY :)that’s exactly what i meant in my first comment. 🙂

  • I absolutely agree with Melody’s comment. I’ve been to China several times and I would never discourage others from going there. I don’t know if you strangely only happened to encounter rude people (there are rude people in every city/country!) while you were in Guangzhou, but I’ve been able to meet the most gracious and generous people in China – a simple shopkeeper who comforted me when I was crying (long story…), and a cab driver who went out of his way to get me to my destination are two of many. It’s a pity that your experience wasn’t as positive as mine, but I hope that you don’t write off the whole country from this one trip. It’s really quite sad to see other readers commenting that they will never go to China after reading your post, and I really do hope that others don’t take on your experience as an absolute truth of China.

  • pple, GUANGZHOU is a BIG CITY. i dun like it myself, the humidity and the streets etc, but the food is better in guangzhou than most places, say HK …. I used to go there for the wholesale malls near to Guangzhou West Station but the toil wore me down wtf, and i tired of knockoffs and cheapies eventually, anyway China toilets are the worst, only in shanghai u will find decent public toilets and thats bcos of Expo and shit, but I love the good people there, the food the nightlife and the foot massages plus the far flung corners like Lijiang where Suet visited where its beautiful and ethereal (but toilets are even worse wtf) i think u might enjoy Shanghai or Beijing as others mentioned, or just come to HK and find me lar wtf
