OMG I have a lot of backdated posts to do!
I do apologize for the number of ads up on my blog recently, dunno why they came all at the same time! And I need to earn money to buy Fighter diapers, Fatty an occasional present or two, and to contribute to the Ooi household, so no choice you gotta bear with me.
But here’s me trying to intersperse the ads with a real blog post or two!
Recently Fatty has been kind of a health nut. He says it’s because I keep calling him Fatty. Wow it works! No la kidding I know he’s not really fat (although he may have been a bit heavier before) but he call me Shorty! I have to find something to call him too wtf.
Anyway in addition to golf, he’s recently picked up cycling. (Because golf no cardio.) He keeps telling me he wants to find a healthy activity to do together as a couple and because I’d rather go to hell and back than pick up golf (hot, will get dark, difficult, takes long time) cycling sounds like a decent option.
Now if only I knew how to cycle wtf.
I told him I don’t mind actually if he’d teach me how to bike. Fatty was quite doubtful but I acted so confident about picking it up as an adult that he agreed and we went and got me a bicycle bike.
I’m on a bike! And the price tag is still on WTF.
You know what they say about getting someone to run along and hold the bike steady for you when you cycle, and then let go and you’ll be cycling on your own? Complete rubbish wtf. It doesn’t work! When someone is holding the bike for me, I rely completely on them and never learn balancing at all. The minute they let go I topple over wtf. This is actually the best way (for me, at least): (source: learned this from Youtube)
- Remove the pedals. Mine is a folding bike so we folded in the pedals so they’re out of the way
2. Don’t even attempt to cycle first. Find a gentle slope and roll your bike down it. Attempt to balance yourself on the bike while it’s rolling downwards. If no slope, use your feet to push yourself and balance while your bike moves.
Use your feet to balance yourself if you have to.
3. Repeat until you can glide your bike without your feet hitting the ground for longer and longer periods
4. When you feel like you’ve got the balance, put back the pedals.
5. Start cycling beechez!!!!!
Obviously I fell over a couple times too.
But the technique is damn easy to learn! The most crucial thing in cycling is the balance obviously so it makes sense to master that first before even trying to pedal.
A cycling virgin like me also can learn in an hour I kid you not.
Fatty used my phone to take videos. He was a very good teacher! In between shouting encouragements, he’d study me and tell me what I was doing wrong. And then cheer for me and his cheering tone is the same tone he uses on Fighter when he does tummy time hahahaha. #myhusbandisbetterthanyours
The first portion is me half an hour into the lesson, still stumbling around trying to get my balance. Then all of a sudden it clicked! Second part is me finally getting it, although I still nearly crashed into a pole wtf.
I’m not going for cyclathons anytime soon but yay I can (sort of) cycle now!
I practiced two more times after that and yesterday I could kick off and start cycling about 80% of the time now (before I kept falling over if I tried to kick off), although I can’t really turn wtf and I wobble most dangerously and still have a tendency to crash into things.
*tries to rub scratch off Fatty’s car*
But watch out Lance Armstrong! I’m coming for you. Right after I figure out how to stop without the assistance of a wall/pillar/the floor.
(omg I added a new blog category for this)

Great job Audrey! Yes it’s true this method works! Tried that last year and I was able to cycle after 1 hour too! Cycling is fun!
Yes, I watched the video when Timothy posted on Dayre. You’re so smart and brave. You know ah, the older we are, the lower of tolerate of pain level..so at least you didn’t give up!! Great!!nnWhy you still so pretty even go cycling?
Wah, I also don’t know how to cycle, and this post gives me hope! Maybe I should try too. No wonder kids these days learn to cycle using a balance bike first, which has no pedals.
Wah, so scary eh for a bicycle newbie to roll down the hill >.< Would sked the shit out of me! Haha..nnhttp://www.tenshichn.blogspot.com/2014/01/037-hakata-ippudo.html

lance armstrong took drugs..not the best example eh..
Lol! Can join OCBCcycleMY 2015 adi! 🙂
lolol don’t stress me out!!
I only used his name cos he’s the most famous cyclist and therefore relatable to everyone leh
haha that’s unfair leh T_T it’s not that I’m not blogging at all, only that the ads are all scheduled consecutively
haha cos wearing makeup I think
ya this method rocks!
GOOD JOB AUD! I first picked up cycling in london, with one of the barclay’s bikes. And I attempted cycling on the roads at night. I thought less cars so sure ok one haha. I was exactly like you at first, couldn’t balance at all. Every car that passed by will freak me out and i will lose my balance and end up banging the cars parked by the side of the road. But I too can cycle now. U obviously learn alot faster than me la well done well done!
