I am writing this post so earnestly you don’t even know.
The other day I mentioned Tesco online shopping hor. Let me talk about it further today. #auntiehood
A few years ago I watched this Arnold Schwarhaaghaghasgjs (dunno how to spell wtf) movie set in the future. Totally don’t remember the title or the storyline but all I remember was that he had this fridge into which whenever his groceries ran out, he could just key his t0-buy list, and tadah groceries would through some method which I don’t remember, appear magically in his fridge.
When I saw that I was like take me to the future, Arnie!!!
I hate grocery shopping. With a passion.
Unfortunately I am a semi-housewife now (although not desperate ahem) which means that I’m in charge of running the household, and that includes grocery shopping.
Some reasons why I hate grocery shopping:
- It’s shopping but it’s boring shopping. Really, is chicken breast anything to get excited about?
- We live in the heart of KL where there are no hypermarkets nearby. The most we have is upscale supermarkets which are all located inside malls. So I either have to pay more buying from these places, or drive out of the city, taking up more time and petrol and still pay more that way.
- If buy from mall supermarkets, I need to lug heavy bags of groceries through the mall to my car. And then I cannot buy rice. Or detergent. Or anything heavy because my Chinese name is Ah Weak.
- With Fighter now, I’m even more reluctant to leave him at home while I go shop, and I definitely can’t bring him along yet.
So Tesco Online has really been heaven sent. The minute I found out it was available in our area I signed up… and lived happily ever after.
It is so convenient I could cry thinking about it. Everything is neatly divided into categories and you just click through and look for the item you want.
If you’re not sure which category, just search for the item.
For example if I pick milk, low fat all the low fat milk choices pop up and I can compare brands and prices. No more squinting at shelves while trying to watch out for crazy children running down the aisles wtf.
The website also shows the same promotions as the physical store. And you get to see how much discount you get and the price before too. Good for making educated decisions!
As you go along and add stuff into your cart, a running list is kept on the right side of the browser. So you get to see which stuff you already added, and the total price.
When you’ve got all your items, you book a delivery slot next.
To make sure you’re at home when the delivery comes!
It’s a RM10 flat fee for delivery so although there is no minimum order I like to buy as much as I can to maximize it hahaha. It’s extremely reasonable anyway considering I’m saving on parking and petrol. Plus my time which is priceless (like Mastercard).
Then just sit and wait for the Tesco van!
I absolutely love it! It’s turned something I hate into something I have a lot of fun doing now – yea I actually have fun going through the items and brand names and prices and I always feel super efficient and frugal hahaha.
I use this service every week now to get my groceries delivered!
So far it’s never failed. The Tesco delivery man always shows up on time, and they’re always polite and friendly!
I’ve been telling all my friends about it and they always ask if the produce delivered is fresh. Yes it is. There’s no reason for Tesco to try to cheat you into buying substandard food anyway.
And if you’re dissatisfied, they are happy to take it back. You pay at the door (with a credit card) so you won’t be charged either!
In a country where customer service is horrendous, I could not praise Tesco more.
Give it a try! The convenience is just crazy. Start shopping at Tesco here.

Hi there! Just wondering…do you live in an apartment where there’s a security guard post at the entrance? Was this a problem for Tesco to deliver to you?nnThanks alot! Love your blog!
Hi. I use Tesco Online in UK and they are super efficient too! They go to as low as GBP1 per delivery and they help with carrying of groceries etc. Some other supermarkets make you stand in the cold and carry it yourself! Tesco has been very great and even when you realise.the things were missing or eggs were broken etc, just email them through your tesco account and they called back to let you knoe they are processing the refund. No question asked. I really love them too! Good job tesco!
My sis in Spore also shops online for groceries, but it is not Tesco.. Single working ladies also finds it useful especially since she doesn’t have a car in Spore, and she works long hours..
Suzy: the thing to do for those living in a gated community’s to inform the security guard in advance regarding the delivery. Otherwise, I reckon the security can ring the owner before allowing the delivery person in..
