Erm you know I toyed with a couple of DIY projects and “How-to” tutorial ideas. So this is actually a How-to blog post – How to make your bedroom feel like a hotel room.
Since I started hosting on AirBnB (more on this later!) I’ve constantly been thinking how to make our place more comfortable? How to make it more inviting? How to make it so that we don’t lose out to hotels (besides our price la wtf)? How to make our rooms cosier? How to make it so our bedrooms got the hotel feel?
Here are four ways I think anyone can do easily without investing a lot of money. Bear in mind there’s probably a lot more you can do. A lot of my tips are going to be concerning textiles in the bedroom. Why? We spend the most time snuggling down in bed so everything to do with the bed is going to be crucial.But I picked this list based on not having to spend too much money and for very little effort.
Invest in a down comforter

A good quality down comforter goes a long way in upping the coziness factor in a bed! Personally, down gives the best temperature balance – it keeps you warm in a cold room, and not overheated in a warm one. Down is heavier than say, cotton batting, so it really makes me feel snug and comfy wrapped up in it. Also it feels super luxurious!
Upgrade the sheets and pick white
Forget satin or whatever. 100% cotton sheets feel awesome – crisp and soft at the same time – especially if they’re of a high thread count.
I recently got new bedsheets from Elise (stocked in Isetan) made from Supima cotton. Supima is grown in the US and it’s equal to Egyptian cotton. The fabric is of a 1400 thread count and feels thicker than our old bedsheets and omfg it’s soooo comfy! Getting into bed at night now is such a pleasure. 😀
To get even more ‘hotel feel’, get white sheets. No printed florals or cartoon characters please wtf. All hotel rooms use white bedding. I read somewhere it’s because white is the easiest to spot stains on and replace if necessary, and for easier bleaching and cleaning. But because the best hotels use white sheets, white bedding now represents luxury, cleanliness and a good night’s sleep. Everything I want in my bed hahaha.

Flowers
Another way to jazz up your bedroom is to simply add flowers to your bedside.
You can easily buy a few stalks of fresh flowers from the market, arrange them quickly in a vase on your bedside table, and voila! It looks prettier and cosier already.
However I would not choose sunflowers again wtf. I picked them thinking they would look so cute cos of their bright yellow color. But I forgot the inside brown part is very gross FML. Looks like a shedding animal staring at me now wtf.
Next time I’d go for roses, or peonies. Or even small plants like this!
Towels
Again, textiles are super important in creating a sense of comfort and luxury. In the bathroom, place a neatly folded WHITE fluffy towel on the rack and your bathroom automatically looks more shiok. Lolol.
My towels are also from Elise. They’re soft, thick and absorbent very very nice to wipe with them hahaha. And best of all, don’t leave lint on my skin wtf.
Rug
I never really thought about this until I started furnishing our other house. I was looking for things to decorate empty rooms and just bought rugs to lay beside the beds. It’s a great idea (ahem) because imagine you wake up, swing your legs to the floor to get up from the bed. And what do you feel? Instead of unwelcoming cold hard floor (or scratchy carpet), tadah! A nice soft rug to pamper your feet before they hit the ground running for the day. 😀

Throw pillows
Oooh this is something that I realized when stalking AirBnB listings hahaha. I realized that a lot of bedrooms overseas – like in the US or Europe – had this but not many Asian bedrooms did.
And that is throw pillows.
Throw pillows pull the look of a bed together. They bring a bed from merely a place to sleep to the centerpiece of the room. Throw pillows can really enhance a bedroom’s decor (or entirely transform it) and up the atas factor.

Stole this off their website. The pillows make it look so pretty right? When it comes to beds, the more pillows the better. (Also helps if you iron your sheets *furtive*)

I really really love my Elise sheets actually. They’re a relatively new brand in Malaysia and are available at Isetan now. The quality is excellent and it’s gorgeous to look at. And don’t need to say they feel soooo good around my legs after a long day – crisp, sturdy (not flimsy), smooth and soft. 😀

We are getting a new bed for the new year so a new comfortable bedsheet will complement the whole set!

Really nice post! Feel so jelly of your rooms omfg! Ok, here goes: what I would change about my bedroom is the theme colour! I love it when everything complements each other, like using basic colour (read: off white) on the wall and throwing colours on every other element in the room, same goes to the bed. Recently got myself a pair of purple ombre small pillow covers for my bed, but it does’t go well with the sea blue bed sheet. I guess I should be getting myself a white one? I would change bed frame to those brown wood to give it a bit more vintage feel. Then ensure my bedsheets are either plain white with slight floral pattern or champagne colour. And matching pillow cases of course. Hardwood flooring, white pastel walls, and a worn out looking brown chest at the foot of the bed for storage. Awesome!

What would I change about my bedroom? The flooring! The house was a subsale and the flooring happens to be tiles. And they are green. Really old and practical feel. If it’s up to me, I would change the flooring to wood, more modern and cleaner look. 🙂

Saying about my bedroom, i would like to change the tiles and the bed frame. My unit is the subsales so i do not change the tiles…*budget constraint*… so it was the white normal tiles.. And my bed frame is those wood bed frame.. If i am able to change my bed frame i would definitely go for a leather grey color with a white bed sheet and white comforter! I would change the mattress along with the bed frame! It is due to the fact that I am currently still using the second-handed “old” bed frame (its age is around 20 years already @.@) . Due to the nature of my job which requires me to sleep at odd hours, I’d love to have total-blackout curtains for an immediate change from day to night anytime of the day for restful sleep. Also new earth-toned or snow white beddings and linen for that luxurious hotel feel as you said. There is just one thing I want to change which is my bedroom size. The space is small for me to walk-in plus It’s getting more and more stuffed with a lot of items that’s making my mom nag me all the time. I am a supporter of Elise pillow. Initially, I bought two pillows to try on and never turn back ever since. From there on, I
bought another 4 more for my family members and even influenced my in-laws and friends to use Elise pillows. No doubt about it, truly wonderful pillow that wrap my neck perfectly and will not sprain it.
Since I already have the best pillow in the world, I would like to change my mattress. My current mattress is too soft to support my backbone. Nowadays, I flip quite often throughout the night because my backbone is pain. I believe that with a good mattress together with my Elise pillows, I would be guaranteed a peaceful sleep. Hey Audrey, I always agree that bed is like the main thing you should focus or spend most money on since at the end of the day, you would just wna tug yourself in a comfy comforter and rest your head on a feather pillow or so. However, I just got myself a new bed recently and I’m done decorating it with all the tips you just mentioned here, tsktsk, so I would be glad to revamp my wardrobe. I always, ALWAYS, wanted my own walk-in closet and able to fit all my clothes and bags in the closet and feels like Im going for a fashion runway whenever I enter the walk-in closet. I would change my coconut fibre mattress to a springier mattress because over the years my coconut fibre mattress has developed an indentation of my heavy body lying on it which sounds a bit ridiculous but it actually is. 😀

Hellooo. Really enjoyed reading this post because I love hotel rooms HAHAHA.
First thing I want to change is my comforter. It’s been a long time since I’ve bought a new one so a nice and warm comforter would be great to snuggle in. New pillows would be great too as my old ones are getting too lumpy and flat! Next is to buy a bigger worktable and maybe a big and comfortable office chair so that I can sit comfortably to do my revision (my small chair can no longer fit me wtf I’m too big). I also would love to add a nice reading chair at the corner of my bedroom because I absolutely adore reading novels so the chair would be perfect!

Haha, I am always a big fan of “Travel” channel. There is a quite famous show from that channel called “Hotel Impossible” where the host (a person with many years of professional experience managing and handling hotels) try to “save” some hotels which is facing the risk of business closure due to mismanagement. One of the thing the host commented the most is, always use plain white sheets for hotel rooms. He is very against in using floral or pattern or animal print duvet cover. He even did a survey by asking those hotel occupants: what they do with those duvet with floral/pattern/animal print covers and most of the occupants say they tend to think those duvets look dirty and they will just pull them away and throw to floor the first thing they check into their room. I find that very interesting, which is why I would like to change the bed sheet sets cover of my bedroom too. Since I will be getting married soon (in March), it will be a good start with the new bed 🙂

I enjoyed reading your post! I would like a fireplace mantel in my bedroom ( I used to have them in UK). I might not use the fireplace at all but it is a must for a classic country looking bedroom. Besides, the mantel allows me to decorate it with all my favourite candles and ornaments.
As for the cosy part, big fat lumpy down pillows and duvet will be great! I always have a heart for down feathers. Themed with classic cotton English bedsheets with a fur throw and not forgetting scented candles too. They make my rooms smell like MINE! As for the walls, floral wallpaper will complement the look.
In fact, that was just how room in UK looked like and I cant wait to have similar one here.

We didn’t put much thoughts on our bed room interior design including the matchy-matchy bed decorations because we were on super tight budget when we moved in to our very own new house 3 years ago and just had our first baby a month earlier. Kind of regret it as we could have better looking bed room in our new home but what to do.. back then money was just tight so we simply moved in after the basic renovation in the house was done. One thing I wanted to change in my house, if I could, surely the look and feel of our master bed room, especially since we have pretty spacious master bed room! I would like to change my bedroom’s lighting. lighting is so important in every bedroom. either to sleep or to enjoy. For me i think lighting can increases someone’s mood. And it can help in sleeping too! I dont like sleeping in total darkness and so i think an adjustable light is a best choice to every bedroom. You can adjust it dimmer when you feel like resting or you can just make it brighter when you need so.

Hello Audrey! I would like to change my bedroom tiles because they are white in color. The strands of hair and dusts are so obvious it is impossible to ignore. Collect them for a few more days and you will get a soft rug when “you swing your legs to the floor” hahaha. First of all I would change the colour of my wall. I picked a dark purple when I was younger because it was my favourite colour. But I do appreciate more neutral or pastel colours now that I’m older, and get basic furnitures instead of all sorts of designs that looks good individually but does not complements the room. I would also love to get some fairy lights and hang them on my bed frame ! 🙂

Would like to change the mattress from queen size to king size, but this might incurred a lot of extra expenses, not only the mattress but the bed sheet, comforter and the cover as well. And king size are always super expensive! Super like the picture that you grab from the website, especially the breakfast pillow!! Elise is available at all Isetan? As for your question, i would really love to change my bed right now complete with a comfortable set of bedding and comforter. This is because i often get backache and non-quality sleep in my current bed and it is definitely affecting my daily activities! Also, i realized that i can sleep really well during holiday because the bed in hotel feels soooo fluffy and soft yet sturdy. And the warm feeling of comforter wrapping me closely somehow make me feel safe and sleep better.

The bedroom is a place to relax after a hard long day at work. First, I will change the lighting to warm yellow lights and repaint the walls to cream colour for a soothing environment . I will also install a home speaker system to play music to help me to sleep as well as to exercise. I will then rearrange the furniture to create a bigger space for exercise.
