Hello!

This is the first of my spring ’14 Tokyo posts!

This is the second time Fatty and I have been to Tokyo together (first was with his whole extended family) and we did all sorts of touristy things before (Disney Sea, Tokyo Tower, Hakone, etc) so this time all we did was meet up with friends, eat and shop. My kind of vacation!

Before we start, lemme present to you a short film I made when we were in Tokyo!

Okok I say short film but in actuality it’s just a video I cobbled together with random clips I took of us round and about Tokyo.  I have no video editing skills to speak of but I managed to do this with just my Sony Xperia Z1 and a handy video editing app I downloaded!

So not bad la 0% effort but still managed to produce this hahaha.

The places featured in it were basically Torigin in Ginza (Fatty’s favorite restaurant), Shibuya (outside the station), Harajuku, Ginza, and Shinjuku Lumine Est. Just wanted to show the atmosphere there!

On trips I normally bring along a semi DSLR or at least a point and shoot to take nicer pictures but this time I relied mostly on my Xperia! The photo quality is comparable to an actual camera and it was so convenient! I usually hold my phone in my hand anyway so any time I wanted to take a picture I just had to hold my phone up, instead of digging around in my bag for a camera. So most of the photos here are taken with Xperia yo.

So the first day was Fatty’s only free day. So it was…

Starting the day! Our hotel was in Roppongi and we took a cab to Ginza where Torigin is cos Fatty didn’t wanna hunt around for it.

Turns out when we got there, Torigin is just located next to a subway exit. ಠ_ಠ

Tried out the panaromic function on the camera to show the interior of the restaurant.  A bit crooked cos your hands need to be really steady.

It’s quite traditional looking and if you see in the video, all the other diners are old people hahaha. No idea if it’s an old people food wtf but I think it could just be cos it’s an old restaurant hahahaha.

Food’s here!  Torigin is a kamameshi restaurant. Kamameshi means kettle rice and it’s a rice dish cooked in an iron pot. I think it’s considered poor people’s food a bit hahaha it’s definitely not fine dining or sashimi standard or anything.

But we love simple food like this! And it’s scrumptious!

You can choose different toppings. Chicken, pork, squid whatever.  We both went for salmon!

Mash up the salmon and mix well with the rice.  The salmon has been marinated with salt already so it’s super flavorful and it needs to be mixed with rice or else too overpowering.  The rice was also cooked with something (dunno what la wtf not oily but very fragrant).

Also ordered yakitori which are the tastiest juiciest skewers I’ve had.

After lunch we took the subway to Harajuku cos that’s Fatty’s shopping ground wtf.  This photo composition got like pro or not! Lol.

First I dragged him to La Foret.  La Foret is a mall in Harajuku and I already saw it the last time I was in Tokyo for Foruchizu but didn’t get to go in.

But it’s quite designer (although a bit quirky not the usual high end brands) and expensive and not really my style. :X

They had some Disney Princess theme going on for their anniversary! So the music was all Disney I already feel like I’m in Disney Sea wtf. ^^

Then we took a walk through Omotesando towards Takeshita St.

Saw the smallest car showroom ever! I thought it was ingenious. This picture also got pro feel ornot wtf.

Ooh #audfit – Striped turtle neck sweater from Younghungryfree, army jacket and high waisted pants from Topshop, shoes from Emoda, bag from Chanel.

#audfit today damn simple actually cos I brought very few clothes here. I thought I’d shop for new stuff to wear nyehehe and save bag space and I was right!

Checked on how my store is doing wtf.  Every time I come here I sure take a picture hahaha.

My favorite store in Harajuku!!! It’s been around since I was studying in Kyoto and me and Angela used to go crazy here wtf.

It’s huuuge and it’s just filled with rows and rows of shoes.

Unfortunately I think my taste has really changed since then. T_T The shoes there all seemed a bit too girly and cute for me already! Couldn’t find anything to buy.

Couldn’t find anything to buy in the WHOLE Harajuku.  I normally don’t buy much there la cos really not my style but Fatty on the other hand was in shopping heaven wtf.

He doesn’t shop often but when he does he buys in bulk. :X

Oh who am I kidding I love it cos it makes me feel less guilty HAHAHHAA.

Waiting for him in one of the Harajuku men’s stores. There are only a few men’s stores and some of the designs are very wtf (spangly pants and a lot of goth styles) but if you browse properly got a lot of nice and cheap stuff (shirts less than RM100 etc)

It was raining. T_T Every time I go overseas, the first few days CONFIRM RAIN ONE. I dunno why! Is it my voice not nice wtf.  As a result I had to carry my umbrella and missed out a lot of photos. (if no rain you’d see my own selfies a lot more wtf)

More or less done with Harajuku so I casually said to Fatty, “since we’re done here and it’s raining why don’t we go to Shibuya….”

He went, Okay. And then gave me a suspicious look. Hahahaha.  He’s terrified of Shibuya and for good reason wtf.

Because once I go here, he has a lot to fear. Wtf.

But when we got there we headed to 109 Men’s where I waited for Fats to shop more.  Just give me a Noble prize already HAHAHA GEDDIT.

(yes there is a men’s 109. And yes some of it can be mad ah beng. As one of the sales assistants there put it when he gave Fats some clothes to try: “this is Shibuya style!” and put thumbs up wtf.  But still got good stuff there. Worth a try for guys to go!)

Fatty decided on the spot he wanted to change his dressing style from his usual boring tshirt and jeans to be snazzier.  So we  had fun trying on things he normally wouldn’t

His clothes shopping done for the day, we went to the foodhall of a department store nearby.  Can’t remember which one already we went to so many.  Here’s Fatty going back to his true passion, sweet foods wtf and buying up sweets in bulk.

All merchandise in Japan is aesthetically perfect.  Have you seen such red and uniformly shaped strawbies ever!? Bought a box and they were spectacular! Sweet and juicy yums.

Then after that the eating monster which is Fatty reincarnated so we found a tiny standing sushi bar nearby.

99% of restaurants in Japan are awesome.  The 1% is in the airport, sorry Narita.

So good and fresssshhhhhhh.

Did you know that for temakis or hand rolls, the filling should go all the way to the bottom of the cone? We just realized it cos in Malaysia most of the time the filling is plonked on top of the cone only and the bottom is just plain rice. >:(

After eating it was my turn!!! I’m home! Tadaima!

I only had an hour to shop before we met Shintaro and Kato san and Nao chan for dinner.

I dunno if successful or not though…They took us to a Kyushu cuisine restaurant.  I forgot which area of Kyushu already.  Super authentic and I suspect expensive. Also full of dishes we’d never find in Malaysia. Japanese are usually great hosts so I think they wanted to treat us to a new dining experience which we really appreciated!

Because they gave us horse meat. :X

Fatty flat out refused to try so to make up for it I had to.  Actually quite yummy!  The meat is soft like sashimi and no strong smell or anything.  Quite good!

More horse meat in the salad which was also very good!

The only thing Fatty ate a lot of was the fried chicken.  Go to Kentucky la next time wtf.

With Tiger (@emitiger on IG) who is super adorable and a fashion blogger. Love her hair, makeup, dressing everything.

Also met Yuri chan another fashion blogger whose face and personality both also damn cute.  She told us she just got together with her boyfriend last night and double high fived everyone hahahaha.  I don’t see how this can be a big deal cos she’s so cute if I were a boy I sure like her la hahaha.

Naturally Fatty was still hungry after dinner (having not eaten most of it) so we went for second round at Shintaro’s favorite ramen shop.  Sorry I dunno where or what it’s called I just blindly walk follow them.

Not the typical miso/shoyu/shio type of ramen though! The pork based broth was a bit thick and the noodles were also thick and springy.  Very yum. I was full already but still ate half a huge bowl.

With everyone! Except Tiger and Yuri who’d left for events.

Then we called it a day! Went back to the hotel and pumped the living daylights out of my boobs.

My shopping that day.  Not up to form. I only had an hour!

 

As opposed to Fatty.  My foot is there to show you the size of these bags!  Each one had like seventy shirts inside.
