Sin Nian Kuai Le (or does that mean happy birthday?)

Everybody’s busy baliking kampung, eating shitloads of yee sang and shark’s fin during reunion dinners, and what I am doing?

Sitting at my laptop, waiting for 2.40pm so I can haul my ass through the brown melting snow to my next class, that’s what. Yes, I have classes on CNY and my birthday. 🙁

This is the first time I’m spending CNY away from home, away from broiling Chinese-New-Year-at-Penang weather, away from distant relatives who marvel at how short I am, away from annoying preteens on TV shrieking ‘Sin Nian’ songs at the top of their lungs and poking their own cheeks vigorously.

I AM ALREADY HATING CHINESE NEW YEAR AWAY FROM HOME.

And to think I will be missing Chinese New Year for the next three years as well.

I even miss the techo-infused New Year songs they blast at shops in Komtar and Sungei Wang.

Not to mention the huge income of angpow collection.

Brother Ooi, I swear if you sapu my angpows, you’re dead.

I am taking half of everything you get when I get back in May.

Anyway, here’s hoping you guys have a great Chinese New Year! Collect more angpows, eat more ‘kam’s, bet more on ogambling, put on more holiday weight or whatever. 🙂

Yam seng.
