Wow I’m on a roll this week. Third blog post in four days! I guess part of it is having Fighter around and being very aware he’ll grow up so fast. Too fast, in fact! Which is why I need to document as much of life with him as I can before he flies away to college! *already experiencing empty nest syndrome.
Why, even now I look at him and marvel at how big he’s gotten compared to the days in hospital when he was this tiny titchy red-faced thing.
He’s still red-faced.
For some reason, Fighter hates getting his diaper changed. Vivy and I were swapping mom stories and she told me that Daniel loves getting his diaper changed. When they pull at his diaper he goes quiet right away cos he knows he’s getting a nice fresh diaper on.
Well, it’s nothing like that for Fighter. *slumped shoulders
Whenever he does a poo, he cries like he’s getting whacked. Cos presumably he hates sitting in a wet diaper.
Then when we change his diaper, he cries like someone’s out to kill him.
You could say diaper changing for Fighter is a slightly stressful and harried affair. Rush to unbutton his onesie, open his diaper, clean his butt as efficiently as possible, swab on the nappy rash cream and strap on the new diaper, all the while hushing him and trying to calm him down.
The other day he pooped and started wailing again. I rushed to pick him up and slotted my phone under my armpit so I could carry him better.
I’m thinking of getting ear plugs.
Then a weird thing happened. My phone which was under my armpit turned on by itself (probably because I was pressing it) and started playing music.
For the first time in his life during diaper change he lay there contentedly and let me change him in peace while the music played.
I already knew he liked music because I used to sing to him a lot when he was in the NICU. And sometimes when he was worked up, I’d sing to him and he would calm down, though not all the time.
But now we also know he has awesome taste in music. The song that was playing was the Beatles’ Blackbird.
How’d you know we named you after another of their songs, Fighter!? Hehe.

(reader who barely comments, teehee) You know? When I was younger and listened to The Beatles I could tell the melody by heart (not the lyrics). I know about 30 melodies without even wondering why.nThen my mom said she used to listen to The Beatles all the time when she was with me and my twin brother.nFighter will know good music melodies too ♪
smart boy! 😀
I watched this recently, thought it’s amazing! Maybe you could try with your lil handsome Fighter 🙂 hope it helps.nnhttps://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=593182350696753nhttp://www.today.com/moms/research-backs-power-5-ss-soothe-babies-717333n
I guess when you sing to the babies from the very beginning, I guess they do like it and are maybe comforted by it. My daughter was also born a premee, she was in the NICU for a week, I went to her everyday and sang to her Amy Winehouse’s “Rich Girl” and other Amy Winehouse songs (i’m not a really good singer), as she got older when we play music or when either me or hubby sing she just quiets down and listens. It’s a really big help.
Babies really loves music… I can sing like the whole day to my gal:)nAnyway try skip the diaper rash cream if he doesn’t have nappy rash… Instead use a barrier cream so tt his butt doesn’t get immuned to the nappy rash cream else it’s not gonna work on his nappy rash if he does get it…. I am using Avents Bottom Balm
Oh thanks for the tip!!! I’ll try to find some next time I go out :)))
Hahahha how come you chose amy wine house ?
Wah your mom has good taste too!
😀
Hahaha we did try it, don’t think we got it right :X
The second pic is too cute! His little hands and legs! XD nIs his name Julian!
He has awesome taste!nAccidental discovery FTW btw – are you going to use music as a distraction when changing his diaper from now on?nps: Heard from my mummy friends (as in friends with kids, not my mother’s friends wtf) that using too much barrier cream/ nappy rash cream will affect the absorbency of diapers, so less is more, in this case?nApparently Vaseline or paw paw (betik wtf) cream is good if you wanted something ‘mild’/ naturalnOtherwise there are a million barrier creams out there
do you and timothy speak chinese? (:
Would you consider a new camera? It’s ruining all nice pics of fighter =P
Amazing! I thought I was the only one that sings Beatles to a 9 month old! Funnily enough, my daugther’s fav is Hey Jude….:)
My mom says that when a baby is hard to handle when they are still an infant (up to when they become a young child). they will grow up to be a good boy who listen to their parent and vice versa. hehe..
*fist pump
Hahaha maybe she’ll like Jude Tiah too wtf
Yes!!!! Hahahah wait for a new camera soon!
Like mandarin? Tim speaks it!
Really ah how you know Vaseline works!!
@Audrey: Heard that Vaseline is ok as a barrier cream (non-medicated so not suitable for nappy rash etc) from my mummy friendsnBut to be honest, it smells a bit…Vaseline-y if you know what I mean hahanI figure it might be ok though, as it’s going on Fighter’s bum and not his facenUnless er, his sense of smell is super-duper keennI like the smell of pawpaw cream but my sister thinks papaya in all its permutations smells like regurgitated vomit -___________-
Amy Winehouse ’cause she’s my favorite duh! LOL jk! But yeah, she really is my fave! :)nn*don’t know how to reply to you so I put a new comment. Haha!
