This year’s birthday

Yay another picture heavy post!

Like I’d mentioned the last time, I was sick (and still am) on my birthday so I canceled plans for the day (Fatty was gonna take me for Japanese food) and declared the day my un-birthday.

So we just had simple homecooked food.

Birthday celebration #1

Untitled

Fighter joined us for dinner!

Taken with my Xperia Z1.  I just realized one noticeable feature of the camera is that when taking pictures of babies (who are inadvertently moving or wobbling or something), the camera doesn’t snap immediately; instead it focuses and sometimes in a split second Fighter’s smile disappears and I cannot catch it.  But the clear upside is that because the camera really focuses, it auto adjusts the light so every picture taken with it confirm clear one!

Untitled

You all eat dinner I also eat… my hands.

Untitled

HAHAHAHA I SO FUNNY

Untitled

FUNNY HOR FUNNY HOR

Untitled

…no?

Untitled

Oh well I tried.

His pajamas and bib are a gift from Ginny.  Thanks Ginny they fit perfectly so he can continue wearing some time more hahaha.

Untitled

Fatty and his boy.  Wah Fighter’s stomach I cannot. Hahahahaha.

Anyway earlier in the day Fatty told me he was gonna go get me a cake cos even if I didn’t celebrate, I should at least have a cake.

But halfway during dinner he told me he had back to back meetings and forgot to get a cake.  I wasn’t too fazed la but cos Fatty ALWAYS tells me how he’s the best husband ever (which I have to agree, I have no complaints) so I said “there, something lacking.  You forgot my birthday cake” wtf.

Untitled

He silently walked over to the freezer, whipped out a cake box and looked at me in triumph wtf.

Okay la you win Fats!!!!

Some more this must be the stupidest looking cake in the world hahahaha I love.  A pink…moose?  Reindeer?

I don’t eat cake so he got an ice cream cake.

Untitled

Family photo attempt #1

Fighter: “ooh cake. om nom nom nom”

Untitled

Family photo attempt #2

Fighter: “LEMME AT THE CAKE!!!”

Untitled

Family photo attempt #3.  Third time’s the charm except Fighter’s stomach is showing again hahaahha.

Fighter: “ok fine one more picture.  There’ll be cake after right?”

If you realize, Fatty’s wearing a long sleeved tshirt….as opposed to a..uh regular tshirt.  Cos he thought we were going out so he ‘dressed up’ wtf.

Birthday celebration #2

Then over the weekend Suet and Jam took me out for karaoke!  We used to do this ALL the time as (younger) kids especially me and Jam.  Some more called ourselves A2J cos we always sang M2M’s Pretty Boy and by george we were good at it wtf.

Untitled

Suet: “everybody do stupid face!”

We all ignored her.

Untitled

Then we said okok next one do stupid face.

Then please look at Suet wtf.  Always never get the memo wtf.

Untitled

This picture super cute hahaha.Untitled

Jam’s face and pose here damn annoying wanna punch her hahahahaha.

Untitled

LOOK AT SUET GEI EMO

Untitled

<3

Untitled

Jam, singing with the concentration of a…. camp wtf. *bad joke

Untitled

Suet said “do emo face!”

Must always one is it!Untitled

Um there may have been some dancing involved.

Untitled

Then Ooib called and dunno why I was talking into the mic hahahaha.

Then at night they both came with me and Fatty to a #CNYChurpout event with Tesco!

Untitled

So cute the shopping cart as a prop!

Untitled

With Brian, the most fashionable guy in Malaysia.  I always feel damn underdressed around him.Untitled

Ooh my #audfit!

Top from Twenty3, lace skirt from Younghungryfree, necklace from Foruchizu Isetan KLCC.

Birthday celebration #3

Untitled

My makeup turned out very nice so must take picture!

Untitled

Went for birthday high tea with Sherlyn, Hui Wen and Bobo.

The four of us are the ones with the most flexible schedules so we always wanted to go out and pretend to be taitais and have high tea.  Then we always plan to dress ladylike and shit wtf.

But always fail one!! Someone last minute cannot make it la, get stuck in a two hour jam and end up eating potato wedges at Ben’s la (NOT a high tea place) or like this time… call up Grand Hyatt Thirty8 to book their afternoon tea which is supposed to be fabulous only to be told NO HIGH TEA wtf.  Then why all the blogs say got!?

Got redirected to another place in the hotel which apparently serves high tea, and their high tea/afternoon tea definition is nasi lemak and chicken rice WTF.

Anyway. *deep breath* Their chicken rice is very nice anyway, rice very smooth wtf.

Untitled

All the failures had something in common – we always dressed up sweet.  Next time we be goth la wtf.

Untitled

Me and Sherlyn look quite similar that day!  Similar off shoulder outfits, similar nude wedges with ankle straps, hair color also same.  Except she has more hair wtf and also more height.

Untitled

Sit in the cafe for hours and never take pictures until come to toilet and take wtf.

Untitled

When Bobo held her camera like this and took our picture I was secretly impressed wah can take picture like that one ah!  So I tried myself and dunno what this Hui Wen is doing la hahahahaha.

Untitled

So funny to think that we met in Melbourne all those years ago when I was there on holiday and became such good friends until today! *wipes eye shit nostalgically

Untitled

I’d normally caption this photo referencing twins again his picture not so alike la her makeup and hair very different this time hahaha.

UntitledShoesssssss

Untitled

Oh then came home to this funny baby.  I need my social time with my friends but when I’m out I become the Moffatts and miss him like crazy wtf.

Untitled

I think he misses me too.  Changing him into pajamas and he started laughing hahaha.Untitled

#Audfit!  Dress from Twenty3.

Thank you everyone who made my birthday so fun and special!  Didn’t plan on doing anything much but … you all make me so happy! Hahahaha.

Still haven’t celebrated properly with Fatty or my family. *rubs hands

Fighter’s first CNY

Normally I kind of dread Chinese New Year.  The heat, the traffic, the obligations.  But this year I was quite looking forward to it because this year we have Fighter!

And no, not because Fighter can help us collect some angpaus in retaliation wtf.

I thought it would be fun to experience Chinese New Year with a family of my own (and in the eyes of a baby!).  Chinese New Year always seemed more fun as a kid with all the playing, angpau and new clothes hehe.

Plus this year I have my Sony Xperia Z1 and it’s key point is the awesome camera.  I especially like it cos when in low light the camera adjusts itself to brighten up and reduce the yellowness that tends to pop up (which I hate).  So I could take nicer photos of everything!  As always, the photos taken with the Z1 are watermarked.

Untitled

New year red red!  Wah this picture damn ong hahaha.  This was reunion dinner with Fatty’s relatives.

Fighter’s wearing a samfu Mummy Ooi got him.  It’s the smallest she could find and it’s for 1-2 years I think hahaha.  Guess what he’ll be wearing again next year wtf.

Our reunion dinner was in KL because that’s where Fatty’s grandma lives.  The next morning we took a flight back to Penang.

I was quite nervous about Fighter’s first flight.  Horror stories of screaming infants and passengers giving us murderous looks were aplenty in my head wtf.  So I packed the baby sling, in case I needed to carry Fighter the whole time.

Untitled

Fighter in the sling while waiting for the plane.  Pixelated photo from Fatty’s phone *snobbish

Fighter turned out to be an awesome plane baby!  We popped his pacifier in, and he promptly fell asleep lying on Fatty’s tummy for the entire ride. ^^

Untitled

Got to Penang and finished preparing angpaus! #queenoflastminute

Who cares about my #ootds!!! Here’s Fighter’s CNY #ootds whoooo any baby brands wanna sponsor Fighter please contact his manager at fourfeetnine at gmail dot com wtf.

Untitled

Here’s his Chor Yat #ootd.  Hipster or not!!!  Tshirt with bow and suspenders drawn from and tight leggings from Cotton On Baby.

Untitled

Untitled

ootd #2 – Checked shirt onesie from Baby Gap, anchor print socks from Cotton On Baby.

Hehe that’s my father in law carrying Fighter.

Untitled

Oh this one is old Bugs Bunny pajamas.  But Fighter thinks he looks cute here so asked me to post.

Untitled

Hey I’m in my jammies why you take picture!!!

Untitled

Oh this is one day where Fatty and I decided we MUST drink Anglia Shandy.  What is CNY without Shandy (and nga ku)!!!

We were at my grandpa’s house and my auntie brought out the Shandy.  Then only we realized sacre bleu Fatty’s parents’ house no Shandy!  So we specially went to 7-11 and buy four cans back to drink wtf.

In this picture we are like “yo let’s get wasted tonight!” *clinks glasses*  We are so loser I cannot.  Hahahaha.

Untitled

With a slightly grumpy Fighter who woke up for milk then wanted to come downstairs and join the party.  Ten minutes after this he passed out again.

Untitled

Untitled

Cute pictures of Fighter rolling around his grandma’s bed!

Untitled

Second day went back to see my parents!  Who took this picture why so blur *growls

Oh ya it was Fat Her. Hahahaha.

Fighter’s #ootd is Baby Gap denim overalls and Cotton On red tshirt.

Untitled

Mummy Ooi gave Fighter his angpau.  He gripped it briefly…before letting go.  See the angpau falling in midair hahaha.

Ooh my pastel yellow with white polka dots off shoulder top & skirt set is from Twenty3.  Best part is I can wear both together or wear separately in different outfits!

Untitled

Went for a very un-CNY lunch at this Korean pasta place at Gurney Paragon.

Untitled

Grandpa Ooi!  If Fat Her’s nose is anything to go by, my own nose will only get bigger as time passes fml.

Untitled

One of the cutest moments in Fighter history!  Fatty was playing table tennis with his friend Gin so I brought Fighter down to watch.

He was extremely excited as you can tell.  Dunno what about hahaha cos Gin wasn’t even hitting the ball then.  He saw Gin and started laughing and kicking away.

Untitled

Laugh until no eyes!

Took some videos of him too!  Him basically being very excited as usual hahaha.

A bit small cos I accidentally resized and don’t know how to reverse it. T________T

Then it was time to go home!

Untitled

Super kuai on the way home as well.  He took a big dump immediately after we got to our seats on the plane wtf but didn’t make a peep.  He started getting fussy toward the end so I sang Hey Jude to him and he calmed down again.  I am sooooooooooooo lucky!

Untitled

“Don’t forget I’m here Mommy.”

How was CNY overall with a baby in tow? Really fun!  It was nice bringing him around and showing the relatives who’d all exclaim over how big he is now.  And of course the grandparents all showered him with buckets of attention and care.  Also fun shopping and coordinating outfits for him.  Shopped for Fatty too this year cos I had a feeling he’d forget. (He did.)  A lot of people said their clothes were nice! (actually only one person, my sister in law WTF).  I could still be a personal shopper.

Untitled

Last photo with Xperia Z1 tagged on it.  Happy Year of the Horse from us!   Fighter is finally looking at the camera and smiling so that pretty much makes this Photo of the Year.

Bonus picture:

Untitled

Fighter collecting our Tesco groceries from the Tesco delivery guy yesterday.

I’ve been sick (because of him AHEM) so he felt guilty and worried I’m not eating properly.  Mommy not eating well = no milk for Fighter wtf.  So he helped me order from Tesco Online.  So easy a baby could do it. HAHAHAH.

Young Hearts

Does any Malaysian not know Yasmin Ahmad?

Best known (to me la at least because I’m a Philistine and don’t really keep up with the local arts scene) for her work on Sepet and Petronas TVCs, Yasmin is like a household name in Malaysia.

When she passed on, I have to admit I wondered what would happen to the Petronas festive TVCs without her.  But I needn’t have worried cos I think Petronas has continued their tradition of beautiful, touching festive greeting TVCs superbly.

Their Chinese New Year TVC this year is no different. ^^

Untitled

Got invited to the media launch of the TVC the other day!

Untitled

Ohai!  Wore white cos I saved all my colorful clothes for CNY itself hahaha.  Making up for it in red lipstick!  In real life the red is dark red but dunno why chilli red in photos not sure if I like it.

Untitled
Ooh digression what I wore wtf. Sailor dress is from younghungryfree.

DSC00172

With Bobo and Jessica!

Untitled

“Young Hearts” is actually a three-minute web film of which 30 and 60 second versions will be aired as a TVC.

Untitled

Speeches first.

Then time to watch “Young Hearts”!

Here’s the full length version.

Untitled

When the film drew to a close, I found myself with a lump in my throat and tears prickling the back of my eyes lolol.  I dismissed it as crazy breastfeeding hormones but then Bobo next to me leaned over and whispered “eh do you feel like crying?”

Me: “No, why you so crybaby one?”

HAHAHAHA NO LA. It was beautiful!  It’s not sad – the opposite really, it’s quite cheery and light for the most part.  But two thumbs (and two big toes) up for the execution and the messages and themes it explored.

taufoofa

Firstly it was mad nostalgic.  It made me yearn for… I dunno, simpler times when I was a kid.  When the happiest thing ever was to go to Komtar and sit on those stationary kids rides where you have to put 20 cents in wtf.  Or when my grandfather went down the road to buy back koay teow thng for me.

And soya bean is one of my favorite drinks wtf.

river

And the scene settings were gorgeous.  Again all harking back to quainter, cleaner times.

bikeBehind the scenes with the bicycle.

talents

The talented talents wtf.  Do you know the little girl and old lady are real life granddaughter and grandmother?

And the old man reminds me of Mr Frederickson hahaha.

Honestly it made me want to faster go visit my grandparents wtf. I loved the spirit of togetherness and family Young Hearts portrayed. Maybe it speaks to me because I also have a young family of my own now too and because I’m married I’m not supposed to go home on the first day of CNY and I miss that!!!

I hope Fatty and I stay as in love as the elderly couple and our family as close knit. *stares at Fighter*

Untitled

The cast were present too in their respective costumes which was adorable!

DSC00188

We also thick skin go ask them for photo hahaha.  We took one with the old couple too but cannot find it T________T The old couple is damn cute laaaaa.

Untitled

Happy Chinese New Year all!

edit: Written some time ago before I changed my hair!

Untitled

Ohai. Iz me and my straw hair.

The thing is, I don’t want to stop coloring my hair.  I’ve done it for ten years and colored hair has become as much a piece of my identity as being 4’9 is. 😀 My hair is more or less a fashion accessory to me, so there’s nothing else to do but wait for technology to advance more and more so that dyes and treatments will be healthier for the hair. 😀

In the meantime, I just need to minimize and repair the damage done.

Really no choice!  Nearly everything we do affects hair health.  Don’t say perming or coloring la, even blow drying, combing, brushing or going under the sun can spoil your hair. Unless you are okay staying indoors away from UV rays forever and never brushing your hair, your hair will be exposed to some sort of damage – it’s only up to the individual to decide to what lengths they’re willing to go for their hair without getting ridiculous about it.

I am vain so it’s super important that my hair stays as ah lian as possible. Lolol.

Untitled

Sadako why you come out of my toilet!!!!

Untitled

Even though Number76 uses some of the best products in the market, the frequent dyeing and bleaching has taken its toll. 🙁

Untitled

So luckily I stocked up again on Dove Intense Repair products!

Untitled

This is the complete range.  From L-R: Shampoo, conditioner, All Day Repair cream, treatment mask (and pink tumbler wtf)

A few years back, I already wrote a post on the Dove Intense Repair range!  This is the same range but with a new formula to it – the Keratin Repair Actives Formulation.

A big part of human hair is made of keratin and when damaged, the keratin strips away.  The Keratin Repair formula works by replenishing the keratin at the cellular level of the hair so it becomes stronger and more resilient to damage.

Untitled

So I tried it out!  The ends of my hair are the most damaged so I decided to test it out on the ends first.  No photos of the process because it’s impossible to hold a camera and wash hair at the same time please lol.

I wet the ends of my hair and shampooed and conditioned it.

Untitled

Then I blowdried.

Can I say A for awesome?

Even with conditioner usually, I need to give my hair a comb through before I dry it because while it’s not tangled exactly, the hair won’t be in a smooth sheet but stay in tiny little knots and clumps.  And if I blow dry it like that, it becomes super frizzy and weirdly takes on the texture of pubes WTF.

This time I misplaced my comb so I was praying it wouldn’t stay in micro-knots… and….

mother of god

My fingers just slipped through my hair.  Like it was water.

At the Dove launch, we heard about a new Microsheets technology used in the Intense Repair Conditioner which coats hair to detangle and make it damn damn smooth.  But this was my first time experiencing it myself and it’s really quite shocking what a big difference it makes even compared to other conditioners.

Untitled

Soft!

Untitled

Done!

Untitled

Less frizzy than before. But it’s quite spectacularly smooth and silky to touch. So much more manageable yo!

Usually even after wash and conditioner when I run my fingers through my hair, my fingers meet little snags which slow down movement.  But now it just passes through like silk. :O

Untitled

Style and ready to go!

Untitled

Another one hehehe.

Untitled

This is my favorite product of the range – Overnight Treatment.  I usually wash my hair at night and apply this to damp-dry hair ends then go to sleep.  Works wonders! Next day super soft one.

I should note that I find these products quite rich though.  So you could try to apply to hair ends and not your scalp!

Untitled

Dove is love. 🙂

28 years

It’s my birthday today. I’m sitting downstairs in our study at 1am typing this.

This is not a normal birthday.  A normal birthday for me would be Fatty throwing a surprise party for me with all my friends and family in attendance.  He does this every year but this year I told him no need this year!  Not really a surprise anymore hahaha.

This year I’m content to spend it with my Fatty and my Fighter, with just a quiet (Japanese) dinner.  And then later some dinners/teas with my parents and other friends. 😀

Kind of regret not planning anything special for tomorrow though.  I don’t wanna just sit at my computer and do work!!! Fatty suggested a full day of pampering but …it’s Monday and 76style and my nail technician are both off wtf.  Also I dunno where to go for a spa/massage and I don’t wanna go alone anyway since all my friends are at work.

Which is just as well because Fighter’s sick! *insert anguished face

No fever but down with a cough and a runny alternately blocked nose which frustrates him because he can’t drink his milk without suffocating himself.  So he pulls off the bottle/nipple and screams. T_______T  Then when he screams, he starts coughing which makes him cry more.  It’s a vicious cycle.

It’s been a very exhausting few days for us but I can’t even imagine what Fighter is going through.  He probably doesn’t know why he’s coughing or his nose is blocked and all he can do is cry and I can’t even help him. T____T  He cried for 10 minutes straight on Friday which scared the hell out of me so I rushed him to the pediatrician.  Ped assured me there’s nothing to worry about besides a little virus but I’ve tried everything I know to ease his symptoms but nothing works completely.

Saline spray/drops. Check.
Decongestant spray. Check.
Nasal aspirator. Check.
Ventolin syrup prescribed by doctor. Check.
Another medicine that comes in powder form to be mixed into his milk (whose name I forgot wtf). Check.
Elevated pillow for easier breathing. Check.
Humidifer in room. Check.

The only thing I haven’t tried is baby Vicks because we don’t have it at home.  (Maybe I’ll go buy some tomorrow, along with some new pajamas for Fighter – he’s outgrowing his 0-3 months ones finally hahahah.  That will be my birthday plan wtf.)

To top it off, both Fatty and I managed to catch Fighter’s cold, from all the coughing he’s been doing in our faces wtf.  I’m hoping my antibodies in my milk will transfer to him but he’s not been drinking much also cos he gets angry every time he drinks and can’t breathe. T______T  So we’ve been feeding him smaller amounts more frequently but I guess there’s nothing else to do now but wait for the cold to pass.

Hope it’s tomorrow!!!! Well later today since it’s midnight now.  Let that be my birthday wish this year!!!!

Anyway this is going to be a long post because I haven’t properly blogged in a long time huh!  I miss this.

I was feeling all introspective about turning a year older and so started thinking about the past year.

Exactly a year ago, two days before my birthday I peed on a stick and discovered the presence of Fighter.  I went for dinner in awe and disbelief and found it was a surprise birthday dinner again hahaha.  So I had to stay silent since we still felt unsure.  Most distracted birthday ever lol.

So a lot happened last year!  Got pregnant, was pregnant.  Only traveled ONCE the entire year (to London and Paris) because we were so paranoid about losing Fighter.

Angela visited!  Disaster hit in the form of preeclampsia.  I can safely say that was the biggest trial of my life.  Hospitalized for a month, underwent a C section, then coped with having a baby in the NICU for another month.

Finally got him home!!!

I can’t believe he used to look like this!

Untitled

And this is him now.

And then for the rest of the year, I spent learning to be a mom.  (Oh I also learned how to cycle.)

Untitled

It has been such an emotional, roller coaster of a year.  At times it was exhausting, scary, extremely stressful and depressing, but at other times it was a year filled with excitement, anticipation, hope, friendship and love, lots of it.

Untitled

They say your past shapes your future and after this, I agree.  Whenever I feel like something is too hard I just remember my friend Eric who said upon knowing I was learning how to ride a bike: “you got through preeclampsia. What else can be more difficult?”

He’s got a point. 🙂

Happy birthday Aud!!! *thick skinned

Happy Kianese New Year!

CNY Mandarin orange break!  Saw this series of Chinese New Year ads by Kia featuring Douglas Lim.

Hahahahahahah damn stupid la!  Douglas is supposed to direct the ads but end up like this…

“This commercial is for sad losers only.”

AHAHAHAHAHHA.

“This commercial only for ugly people one… there? You see?”

SERIOUSLY DAMN STUPID LA HAHAHAHAHAHA.

And then this one possibly the worst lolol.

Spoiler: DON’T read until you’ve watched it.  This was the funniest to me because I didn’t know that was Douglas Lim’s brother.

If you were too busy laughing, this is what Kia was trying to say despite Douglas Lim. Lolol.

1. Bring your Kia car for service this CNY

2. What does Multi Point Inspection mean?Free full car check up, meaning they will do a full check up on your car e.g. what part is damaged or needs to be changed, so you will only pay for the parts you change.

3. What does Vehicle Hand over policy mean? Owner is assigned a Kia service staff from day one. Means every time you go to the Kia service center, the same person will attend to you; this way you will always be informed and updated about servicing/mantainence.

4. What do they mean by free car wash? Means each time you send your car in for servicing, you will receive a free car wash.

P/S: I know Kia has always come up with cool, out-of-the-box campaigns but even so I was a bit doubtful because these Douglas Lim ads are really wtf la keep on thrashing people’s families hahahahah.  But I gotta say they’re damn memorable and definitely cut through the usual feel-good sentimental CNY ads.

Kia really has the power to surprise. 🙂

Of La Fonis and educational toys

Happy Chinese New Year!!!

This blog post is a bit slow but I’m finally getting down to it. ;_;

When I was in Penang for Xmas and New Year, I visited a toy store in Gurney Paragon called La Fonis.

Now Fatty and I have all sorts of definite ideas on how we wanna raise Fighter, and thankfully we’re on the same page for most of them. Hahaha

One of the main ideas is not spoiling him and giving him lots of iPad/TV time, or even buying him every toy he wants.

Our sister in law told us that her kids have lots of new fangled high tech toys but after a week or two or playing, they usually discard them and spend hours playing with cardboard boxes or something.

Thinking back, that’s totally true of my childhood!  Not to say my parents spoiled us and bought us everything we wanted la but we did have a lot of nice toys (usually given during birthdays and for getting good exam results).  But at the end of it we played the most with Lolo and his stuffed toy friends only.  And with our terrapins which cost RM19 each wtf.  We didn’t need expensive toys because we had our imagination yo. *inspiring music blares*

Untitled

So I’m determined to be as picky as possible with Fighter’s toys, which is why I’m really happy to have discovered La Fonis, an educational supplies store.

Untitled

They started off as a teaching supplies store for kindergartens and preschools but have also expanded to include educational toys for home!

Untitled

Although they have a variety of generic toys, most of the ranges they carry are imported from Europe and are high quality durable products.

This range is EverEarth, that does eco-friendly wooden toys.  I love leh I spent ten minutes staring at this display.  Fighter is still a bit young for the toys they have but when he gets older I can buy for him!  I like that wooden playthings are durable and environmentally friendly.  Plus they look damn classic and atas!

EverEarth also has a Plant A Tree campaign going on.  After purchasing one of their products, scan the QR Code on the box using your smartphone, and you’ll be directed to the eco page where you can enter your child’s name. A new sapling will be planted in the forest with your child’s name on it.  So there will be a tree called Fighter hahaha.

Untitled

Uh I also spent five minutes dropping toy cars down this Ramp Racer just to watch them zoom.

This is one of La Fonis’ bestsellers!  If I like it, kids will like it also wtf.  No la I think kids learn with this by releasing the cars themselves and watching to see what happens.  This is suitable for 18+ months though so Fighter has some time to go.

Untitled

Wooden toys galore!  All so brightly painted (with water based paints).

Untitled

One interesting thing about La Fonis is that the owners actually work with a child psychologist to come up with different toy packages for different aged kids.  As a baby grows, they learn different things ma so the La Fonis toy packages includes appropriate learning toys for the baby according to his age.

Untitled

I got Fighter the 0-1 years package!

Here’s what’s included:

My First Multi-Play Activity Cube

Damn fun la this one hahahah.  Fighter how lucky are you!?

Meant to develop babies’ eye and hand coordination, neat pincer grasp skills, object permanence skill, binocular convergent ability, basic tactile skill and imagination.

Untitled

(pictured is the Garden Activity Cube, not My First Multi-Play Activity Cube which is smaller.  I upgraded my package to get the Garden Activity Cube.)

Includes a removable and reversible top with beads, a sliding peg board, a shape sorter, and tic-tac-toe.

Unfortunately Fighter has just recently learned how to grasp objects only (but very pro at tearing my hair out fml) so I haven’t taken this out to let  him try yet.

Untitled

Babybuds Chew Toy (bottom center)

Suitable for babies aged 0+ months. It’s made with natural eco-friendly fabrics and organic cotton natural silks. Each toy is filled with biodegradable corn fiber. From last week when Fighter learned how to grasp objects I gave it to him and he seems very happy to munch on it all day long hahaha.

Untitled

Uhhh Fighter that’s your hand, not the chew toy.

Baby Fabric Book (top right)

Can’t go wrong with fabric books!  Each ‘page’ is brightly colored with a different animal.

Pull along dog (under the fabric book)

This was voted one of “Parents Best Toys” for its multi-benefits and play-appeal. Baby can pull the dog along, and practice fitting shapes together, as well as develop mobile skills and reaching skills (for the pieces).

Can’t wait for Fighter to be able to sit up then can let him play with this!

There are packages for 1-2 years, 2-3, and 3-4 years too.

Untitled

Can’t remember what age package this workshop toy belongs to but it’s so cute!

Untitled

Everything really works!  You can fit the screwdriver and spanner into the screws and bolts so children learn hand eye coordination as well as… reason I guess? And recognizing shapes wtf.

Untitled

For girls there’s a little doll house. *melts

Untitled

My loot!  Activity cube not in picture because too big to lug around hahaha.  And Sephora bag is obviously my own purchase. >.>

Untitled

Planning to come back for a second round when Fighter grows more.

I find the concept of this store damn interesting cos it really focuses on the development of children as opposed to other toys like Transformers or god forbid Playstation wtf which may not be as beneficial or instrumental in the child’s learning and skills.  Knowing that they work with a child psychologist really impressed me too, cos it means La Fonis is really serious about child development and care.

During CNY I heard from La Fonis that they’ve changed up the packages a bit but each item will still correspond to an essential developmental skill.  If you go to their shop they will probably explain to you.

La Fonis is located at Level 5, Gurney Paragon, 163D-5-41.

I asked if they were planning to open a branch in KL and they said yes!  But it depends on the interest shown so KL mommies please support!

For now you can visit their FB page for more info or WeChat them LafonisParagon and email Gurneyparagon_penang@lafonis.com.my

Life is beautiful

I was actually going to blog about something else, but Fatty said, “Shorts, go read this blog.”

I read it.  And cried and cried.

I cannot even begin to imagine what Natalie must have gone through.  In fact, I never really did.  In all those excruciating weeks spent on bedrest at the hospital, I knew the risks and danger but I never once really considered what would happen if Fighter didn’t make it.

In my mind, Fighter would always make it, although I was prepared to face whatever health issues he might have.  Now reading Natalie’s blog, I only know realize what a very real possibility that was, and how naive I was.

Fatty and I are also members of a wonderful Facebook support group for preemie parents and recently we were deeply saddened and scared by stories other parents wrote about their preemies facing fatal health problems.

This could have happened to us.  Fighter was a 31 weeker, what could have given him better prospects than other preemies his age or even older?  Nothing.  It’s purely by chance and luck, I believe, that he is thriving and growing so well.

Life is so so so fragile and can slip through your fingers any moment.  My heart broke for Natalie and I cried for her.  But I also cried for all the other preemie mothers, and I cried for me, Fatty and Fighter, that we were so blessed.

And then we both stumbled next door and smothered a sleeping and slightly annoyed Fighter with kisses.

Pictures from another day, during Fighter’s playtime.  Taken by Suet.

Let’s talk shop

I am writing this post so earnestly you don’t even know.

The other day I mentioned Tesco online shopping hor. Let me talk about it further today. #auntiehood

A few years ago I watched this Arnold Schwarhaaghaghasgjs (dunno how to spell wtf) movie set in the future.  Totally don’t remember the title or the storyline but all I remember was that he had this fridge into which whenever his groceries ran out, he could just key his t0-buy list, and tadah groceries would through some method which I don’t remember, appear magically in his fridge.

When I saw that I was like take me to the future, Arnie!!!

I hate grocery shopping.  With a passion.

Unfortunately I am a semi-housewife now (although not desperate ahem) which means that I’m in charge of running the household, and that includes grocery shopping.

Some reasons why I hate grocery shopping:

  1. It’s shopping but it’s boring shopping.  Really, is chicken breast anything to get excited about?
  2. We live in the heart of KL where there are no hypermarkets nearby.  The most we have is upscale supermarkets which are all located inside malls.  So I either have to pay more buying from these places, or drive out of the city, taking up more time and petrol and still pay more that way.
  3. If buy from mall supermarkets, I need to lug heavy bags of groceries through the mall to my car.  And then I cannot buy rice.  Or detergent.  Or anything heavy because my Chinese name is Ah Weak.
  4. With Fighter now, I’m even more reluctant to leave him at home while I go shop, and I definitely can’t bring him along yet.

So Tesco Online has really been heaven sent.  The minute I found out it was available in our area I signed up… and lived happily ever after.

It is so convenient I could cry thinking about it.  Everything is neatly divided into categories and you just click through and look for the item you want.

If you’re  not sure which category, just search for the item.

tesco2

For example if I pick milk, low fat all the low fat milk choices pop up and I can compare brands and prices.  No more squinting at shelves while trying to watch out for crazy children running down the aisles wtf.

The website also shows the same promotions as the physical store.  And you get to see how much discount you get and the price before too.  Good for making educated decisions!

tesco3

As you go along and add stuff into your cart, a running list is kept on the right side of the browser.  So you get to see which stuff you already added, and the total price.

When you’ve got all your items, you book a delivery slot next.tesco4

To make sure you’re at home when the delivery comes!

It’s a RM10 flat fee for delivery so although there is no minimum order I like to buy as much as I can to maximize it hahaha.  It’s extremely reasonable anyway considering I’m saving on parking and petrol.  Plus my time which is priceless (like Mastercard).

Then just sit and wait for the Tesco van!

I absolutely love it!  It’s turned something I hate into something I have a lot of fun doing now – yea I actually have fun going through the items and brand names and prices and I always feel super efficient and frugal hahaha.

I use this service every week now to get my groceries delivered!

So far it’s never failed.  The Tesco delivery man always shows up on time, and they’re always polite and friendly!

I’ve been telling all my friends about it and they always ask if the produce delivered is fresh.  Yes it is.  There’s no reason for Tesco to try to cheat you into buying substandard food anyway.

And if you’re dissatisfied, they are happy to take it back.  You pay at the door (with a credit card) so you won’t be charged either!

In a country where customer service is horrendous, I could not praise Tesco more.

Give it a try! The convenience is just crazy.  Start shopping at Tesco here.

Feel free to call me Lance Audstrong

OMG I have a lot of backdated posts to do!

I do apologize for the number of ads up on my blog recently, dunno why they came all at the same time!  And I need to earn money to buy Fighter diapers, Fatty an occasional present or two, and to contribute to the Ooi household, so no choice you gotta bear with me.

But here’s me trying to intersperse the ads with a real blog post or two!

Recently Fatty has been kind of a health nut.  He says it’s because I keep calling him Fatty.  Wow it works! No la kidding I know he’s not really fat (although he may have been a bit heavier before) but he call me Shorty!  I have to find something to call him too wtf.

Anyway in addition to golf, he’s recently picked up cycling. (Because golf no cardio.) He keeps telling me he wants to find a healthy activity to do together as a couple and because I’d rather go to hell and back than pick up golf (hot, will get dark, difficult, takes long time) cycling sounds like a decent option.

Now if only I knew how to cycle wtf.

I told him I don’t mind actually if he’d teach me how to bike.  Fatty was quite doubtful but I acted so confident about picking it up as an adult that he agreed and we went and got me a bicycle bike.

Untitled

I’m on a bike! And the price tag is still on WTF.

You know what they say about getting someone to run along and hold the bike steady for you when you cycle, and then let go and you’ll be cycling on your own? Complete rubbish wtf. It doesn’t work!  When someone is holding the bike for me, I rely completely on them and never learn balancing at all.  The minute they let go I topple over wtf. This is actually the best way (for me, at least): (source: learned this from Youtube)

  1. Remove the pedals.  Mine is a folding bike so we folded in the pedals so they’re out of the way

2. Don’t even attempt to cycle first.  Find a gentle slope and roll your bike down it.  Attempt to balance yourself on the bike while it’s rolling downwards. If no slope, use your feet to push yourself and balance while your bike moves.

Untitled

Use your feet to balance yourself if you have to.

3. Repeat until you can glide your bike without your feet hitting the ground for longer and longer periods

4. When you feel like you’ve got the balance, put back the pedals.

5. Start cycling beechez!!!!!

Untitled

Obviously I fell over a couple times too.

But the technique is damn easy to learn!  The most crucial thing in cycling is the balance obviously so it makes sense to master that first before even trying to pedal.

A cycling virgin like me also can learn in an hour I kid you not.

Fatty used my phone to take videos.  He was a very good teacher! In between shouting encouragements, he’d study me and tell me what I was doing wrong.  And then cheer for me and his cheering tone is the same tone he uses on Fighter when he does tummy time hahahaha. #myhusbandisbetterthanyours

The first portion is me half an hour into the lesson, still stumbling around trying to get my balance.  Then all of a sudden it clicked!  Second part is me finally getting it, although I still nearly crashed into a pole wtf.

UntitledI’m not going for cyclathons anytime soon but yay I can (sort of) cycle now!

I practiced two more times after that and yesterday I could kick off and start cycling about 80% of the time now (before I kept falling over if I tried to kick off), although I can’t really turn wtf and I wobble most dangerously and still have a tendency to crash into things.

*tries to rub scratch off Fatty’s car*

But watch out Lance Armstrong!  I’m coming for you.  Right after I figure out how to stop without the assistance of a wall/pillar/the floor.

(omg I added a new blog category for this)
